Patient Engagement Through Education
Active engagement of patients and public in health research is a concept widely accepted. Research being carried out ‘with’ or ‘by’ members of the public and patients rather than ‘to’, ‘about’ or ‘for’ them can lead to results not only scientifically valid, but also more relevant for the patients and public.
One of many challenges to implement patient and public engagement is the availability of willing and knowledgeable patients and patient representatives.
EUPATI with its patient academy and manifold activities through the national platforms supports and promotes patient engagement in offering education to interested patients and public.
EUPATI CH is developing a „Swiss Module“ to enable even more patients in Switzerland to gain basic and country specific education. A well-established network among active patient organization having access to educated patients and patient representatives will enable a better patient and public involvement in health research activities.
